Committee Skills Training

Seventeen people from five local community groups took part in Committee Skills Training as part of a pilot programme between West Limerick Resources and County Limerick VEC's Community Education Programme this autumn. Taking place in Newcastle West, the training aimed to provide community groups with essential tips that will enable them to operate more effectively, tackle issues as they arise and develop more effective structures and operating practices for the future, helping to sustain and develop the invaluable work of local volunteers.

The interactive training initiative was designed to build on groups existing experience through shared learning and practical exercises and examples and covered a range of topics including "Best Practice and Good Governance for Community Groups", "Positive Teamwork", "Setting and Achieving Goals" and "Effective Leadership and Problem Solving".  Feedback from participants was overwhelming positive and participants said they found the trainer very informative and the content extremely practical. One of the main benefits of the course was the format which allowed groups to interact, share experience and network.  A number of groups will now benefit from an additional in community training session which is being funded through the VEC Community Education.
