Dental Health Roadshow
In 2011 the team developed a workshop on dental health for parents and caregivers of children aged 0-8 years. The session, which lasts up to an hour including time for discussion and refreshments, has four objectives:That participants will know about four things:
1. The basic structure of the tooth
2. What types of teeth children up to about 8 years old have and what they are for
3. What causes tooth decay
4. What you can do to help your children or grandchildren have healthy teeth and lovely smiles
The need for this workshop was identified through the Community Health Workers' outreach work, by community development staff at West Limerick Resources and by staff at County Limerick Childcare Committee. The guidance from the staff at the Dental Health Foundation while creating the workshop was very helpful and the team are very proud of the final result. It takes four members of the team to deliver the workshop and the resources include a large set of teeth and toothbrush (for the tooth-brushing demonstration), a large foam model of a tooth, several publications and posters, children's toothbrushes to give participants and visuals from the Dental Health Foundation's Mighty Mouth Schools Programme.
