Developing Future Community Leaders

Transition Year students from five West Limerick Schools are taking part in a new initiative designed to offer young people the stepping stones to become leaders in their schools, community and wider world.  Organised by the Limerick Volunteer Support Service and delivered by Common Purpose, the three day training programme will raise awareness of the key issues affecting young people in the region and create a forum for young people to become involved in solving some of those problems.

Up to thirty-four students from secondary schools in Abbeyfeale, Newcastle West, Rathkeale and Askeaton will take part in the "Your Turn" programme.  According to organiser Paul Moriarty of West Limerick Resources, "Young people will develop skills that will be transferable to life beyond school including leadership, communication and inter-personal skills.  Moreover it will help broaden their horizons from a career perspective but also expose them to new ideas and possibilities."
