Employment Law for Community Groups

Community Groups who employ staff either directly or through some form of employment scheme are being invited to attend an information evening on employment law for community groups this Thursday November 24th from 6.30-9.30pm in the Courtenay Lodge Hotel, Newcastle West.  Being run by West Limerick Resources, the information evening will feature Angela Canavan of Canavan Byrne, HR Management Specialists, who will cover a wide range of issues which community employers should be aware of in relation to personnel management, contacts and terms of employment.

"It has never been more important to keep up-to-date with employment law," explains Suzanne Rowley of West Limerick Resources.  "Community groups are increasingly taking on the role of employers with the accompanying responsibilities which come with human resources including establishing terms of employment, setting contracts and handling disciplinary and grievance situations. This issues can leave groups legally exposed if they are not aware of, or do not follow, the proper process.  This short course is designed to provide an overview of the issues which groups should be aware of along with offering an opportunity for a question and answer question on specific issues which groups are dealing with on an on-going basis."

The training is suitable for Community groups managing FAS CE Schemes, Community Services Programmes, Community Creches, FAS Local Training Initiatives and other community run services managing employees and is completely free to attend.   Among the topics that will be examined are "Your responsibilities as an employer" "Establishing contracts and terms of employment", "Dealing with grievance and disciplinary procedures" and "Governance and the responsibilities of boards".

This training is supported by West Limerick Resource under the Local and Community Development Programme.  For further information contact Suzanne on 069 79114
