January 19th: Coffee Morning in NCW Family and Community Hub

Description:Those wishing to learn more about upcoming courses and services planned for 2012 at the Newcastle West Family and Community Hub are invited to attend a coffee morning on Thursday January 19^th. The Hob hosts a range of activities and events throughout the year. Recently announced activities include an ADHD information session and a Health and Beauty Course for parents, both due to start in late January/early February. All are welcome.

January 25th: Attention Deficit Disoder Support Group Meeting

Description: The Attention Deficit Disorder Mid-West Support Group will host a workshop on ADD/ADHD and co-existing conditions for parents of children attending Secondary School. Parents/Carers/Teachers are welcome to explore and gain a better understanding of the symptoms and its effects on school and home life.

January: Newcastle West Family Club

Description: The Newcastle West Family Club meets each Wednesday afternoon. Activities include art and crafts, games and sports and toys for younger children. Parents must stay throughout. The club aims to support families who are parenting lone, non-English speaking immigrant families and families in receipt of certain social welfare payments. Also the Thursday morning Parents Group in Newcastle West is currently taking part in Health and beauty classes.

January 30th: Parening Through Death or Separation

Description: Lead by Psychotherapist/Play Therapist Tina O'Brien, this information evening will cover a range of areas including what children experience when they lose someone, age appropriate ways to talk to a child, activities for children that help them with their grief and things to look out for that may indicated your child needs extra help. The talk will be followed by a question and answer session and an opportunity to sign up to two additional workshops which will further explore topics such as bereavement and parental separation. All sessions are free of charge and open to West Limerick residents.

February: Cancer Awareness Events

Description:Information on cancer and reducing your risk of cancer will also be available throughout February in the pharmacies in Abbeyfeale, Askeaton, Rathkeale, Newcastle West and Patrickswell, the beauticians and hair salons in Rathkeale, the health shops in Rathkeale and Abbeyfeale, the Rathkeale Community Information office, Newcastle West Community and Family Hub and West Limerick Resources Abbeyfeale office. Always talk to your GP, public health nurse or other health professional if you are concerned about cancer. See also Mobile Cancer Awareness Unit

Description: The West Limerick Caring for Carers group in conjunction with the Revenue Commissioners will hold a free information morning . Information will be provided regarding pensions and taxation, the household levy, water charges and septic tank charges. Public representatives have also been invited to attend.

Description: A two day training programme on 'Understanding and Responding to Domestic Abuse'

March: Healthy Mornings in Abbeyfeale

Description: Parents of young children are being encouraged to take the morning out and learn healthy eating habits followed by exercise in a fun atmosphere. The six week course on Nutritional Therapy will allow parents learn more about nutrition and information on topics such as recipes, allergies and fussy eaters will be available. These sessions will be followed by Zumba Classes from 12-1pm. All sessions FREE to those in receipt of social welfare payments or rent allowance and people from Abbeyfeale Local Authority Estates and surrounds. Supported West Limerick Resources, the HSE and Limerick Sports Partnership.

March: Limerick Lifelong Learning Festival

Description: To mark the festival community groups in West Limerick will host a series of events between Monday March 26th and Sunday April 1st. The LLL Festival is organised by the Limerick City of Learning Steering Group, as part of its strategy of making Limerick a City of Learning.
Locations: Along with West Limerick Resources events in Newcastle West, Tournafulla and Patrickswell, community groups will be organizing events in Abbeyfeale, Glin and Kilmeedy.
