February: Cancer Awareness Events

  • Description:Information on cancer and reducing your risk of cancer will also be available throughout February in the pharmacies in Abbeyfeale, Askeaton, Rathkeale, Newcastle West and Patrickswell, the beauticians and hair salons in Rathkeale, the health shops in Rathkeale and Abbeyfeale, the Rathkeale Community Information office, Newcastle West Community and Family Hub and West Limerick Resources Abbeyfeale office. Always talk to your GP, public health nurse or other health professional if you are concerned about cancer.  See also Mobile Cancer Awareness Unit

February: Newcastle West Family Club

  • Description: The Newcastle West Family Club meets each Wednesday afternoon.  Activities include art and crafts, games and sports and toys for younger children. Parents must stay throughout.  The club aims to support families who are parenting lone, non-English speaking immigrant families and families in receipt of certain social welfare payments.  Also the Thursday morning Parents Group in Newcastle West is currently taking part in Health and beauty classes.

February 6th: Information Morning for Pensionners

  • Description: The West Limerick Caring for Carers group in conjunction with the Revenue Commissioners will hold a free information morning .  Information will be provided regarding pensions and taxation, the household levy, water charges and septic tank charges.  Public representatives have also been invited to attend.

February 20th: Public Talk for Parents

  • Description:  Part of a series of public talks for parents of children grieving as a result of death or separation. Lead by Psychotherapist/Play Therapist Tina O'Brien, this talk will cover activities for children that help them with their grief. Open to West Limerick residents.

  • Location: Newcastle West Family and Community Hub located upstairs in the Newcastle West Community Centre (by the GAA pitch and entrance to Demesne)

February 23rd: ADD/ADHD Workshop

  • Description: Lead by Educational Psychologist, Michael de Villiers this workshop will examine the topic of ADHD/ADD, looking specifically at managing behaviour. As a follow on from these workshops a support group in west limerick is now forming for parents. Registration is not necessary.

February 29th: ADD/ADHD Support Group Abbeyfeale

  • Description: The first meeting of the Abbeyfeale ADD/ADHD Support Group takes place on February 29th.  Parents who attended the ADD/ADHD workshops by Mid West Support Group are welcome.  This support group is open to any parent/carer who has a concern regarding ADD/ADHD and co-existing conditions. This event is supported by West Limerick Resources and HSE.

February: Abbeyfeale Jobseekers Network

  • Description: In the coming weeks the first meeting of the new Jobseeker's Network will be held in Abbeyfeale to offer networking and support to people feeling frustrated by the search for work. The group will find and share information on jobs, training and education opportunities and use the space to map new career pathways with these opportunities.
