To make Limerick's first annual Intercultural Week West Limerick Resources recently supported two special events in Newcastle West through funding secured from Limerick County Council. The week long calendar of events, which took place across the city and county, was designed to promote integration, challenge discrimination and celebrate the diversity that is now part of everyday life in the Limerick region.
Nearly forty people attended a screening of "Africa United" in the Desmond Complex on Tuesday May 24th which was run in conjunction with the local film club. This was followed up on Thursday May 26th with an intercultural morning in the Newcastle West Library. Attended by twenty five children and their parents from various backgrounds the event included face-painting, storytelling and African Drumming.
As part of its role as a local community development organization West Limerick Resources was delighted to support Limerick Intercultural Week which it feels demonstrates that there is a strong commitment to integration and the goal of creating a vibrant, inclusive and dynamic Limerick where all residents are valued, regardless of their nationality, religion or ethnic background.
