Following on from its successful launch late last year, a new Rainbows programme is due to begin this autumn. Offering a free support group for children between the ages of 4 to 12 years who are grieving a death, separation or any other painful transition or change in their family, the programme will run one hour per week over a twelve week period.
Run by trained volunteers, the programme is positive, gentle and encouraging however it is not counseling or therapy service. It is instead a safe, confidential setting where children can share their grief associated feelings with each other and with trained facilitators. The first branch of Rainbows was established in Ireland in 1988 to provide children, youth and adults an opportunity for support after a painful loss. Since its establishment, Rainbows has been developed in over six hundred locations throughout Ireland, with a number of local West Limerick volunteers taking part in training last year and successfully running programmes in Abbeyfeale and Newcastle West earlier this year.
Those interested in learning more or who would like an application form are asked to contact Dearbhla or Nora in the West Limerick Resources Abbeyfeale office on 068 32444.
